Stine and Julian held their Bali Destination Wedding just outside of Ubud which is considered the cultural heart of Bali. They chose the Hotel Alilia Ubud as the wedding venue and my goodness was that a wise choice. Alila Ubud is a luxury hillside retreat just on the edge of the Ayung River valley in the village of Payangan and when I arrived the morning of the wedding I really was blown away by its beauty. The final few minutes drive down to the hotel was through winding lanes surrounded by rice paddy fields stretching off in to the distance. I’d been staying in Sanur up to that point which is lovely, but this was the Bali I was excited to explore.
From start to finish this was an incredible wedding and even a handful of strong downpours leading up to the ceremony (which was outside) weren’t going to dampen anyone’s mood. You’ll see from the pictures how wonderful a location this was and hopefully how much fun was had by all the family and friends who had travelled from all over the world to share this experience with Stine and Julian. Stine is Danish and Julian is British so there was a wonderful mix of traditions on display – particularly some Danish customs that were new to me and many of the non-Danish guests! I think my favorite is the one which dictates that if one of the couple are left alone at the table while the other use the bathroom, all the guests (of the opposite sex to the person left behind) must line up and give them a kiss. There were other Danish customs on display that night and all seem to involve kissing to some degree….
I have to again thank Sigit from The Uppermost who flew from Jakarta to help me out with this wedding. Let’s just say that whilst beautiful, Alila Ubud would have made it tough for me to handle alone due to the many thousands of steps we had to negotiate that day! Sigit had my back throughout and captured awesome images. Thanks Sigit.
Stine and Julian – you are a lovely couple and I’m so glad I was able to connect with you guys to make this happen. Photographing your Bali wedding was an experience I’ll never forget, so thank you for letting me a part of it!

I love how you capture a sense of the occasion here and not just the bride and groom and exotic location, although you capture that beautifully too. The sense of everyone being there and having a great time too is so refreshing. Lovely emotion in the ceremony shots.
