“Your photos are beautiful……! So how exactly does ‘destination photography’ work?”
This was one of the first comments made by Lauren last year when we were in early communications about their 2014 wedding in Bali. I looked back at our email exchanges the other day and it’s a fascinating read, it really is. Lauren – you should try it, it will make you smile. I was convinced Lauren and Paul, who currently live in Hong Kong but hail from the US, would decide to go with a local Bali wedding Photographer rather than fly me over from Los Angeles, I really was. Thankfully that didn’t happen and they decided to put their trust in me and my photography. So there I was booking my first wedding in Bali. Happy days..
I’d seen a Bali Destination Wedding photographed by one of the best photographers in the world last year and knew then I had to do all I could to make it happen for me. I knew that doing what I love with great people in such a wonderful setting would be something a bit special. I was not wrong. In fact, April 2014 saw me photograph two incredible Bali Destination weddings, that of Lauren and Paul, and that of Stine and Julian in Ubud – I’ll be blogging this very soon!
Lauren and Paul’s Bali Destination Wedding was held in Balangan Beach at the beautiful La Joya Villas and started with a sunset BBQ on Balangan Beach the night before. They really made the most of the awesome location of La Joya with the ceremony taking place on the cliff top overlooking the bay itself. This was an emotional one and I hope the images from the ceremony do justice to what was felt by everyone there that day. I can promise in advance however that they do not adequately portray how disturbingly hot it was….oh my word the humidity! Seriously though, losing half your body weight in sweat aside, it was truly a breathtaking experience. Seeing two such kind and genuine people so very much in love say their vows in front of family and close friends who had travelled from all over the world was very special indeed. It’s why destination weddings are so unique…
I did not do this one alone though, which explains why the blog post is longer than usual. Sigit and Tito from The Uppermost helped me out with telling the story of the day itself and I am so very grateful that they were able to join me. They effortlessly supported me in capturing this stunning day, adding their unique perspectives and allowing moments to be captured from three different angles. Thanks guys – it was great working with you.
Lauren and Paul – congratulations again from the bottom of my heart and thank you so much for trusting in me to capture the most important weekend of your lives. Your family and friends were so kind and welcoming throughout which made this experience one that I will never forget. I’m glad you now know exactly how Destination Wedding Photography works… 🙂 Stay in touch..
