My first Camarillo Ranch Wedding was the incredible Indian Wedding of Veena and Kishan. Celebrations started on the Friday at the Sangeet in Palos Verdes but the main event was at the gorgeous Camarillo Ranch. It was a privilege to be part of their wedding weekend, I had so much fun behind the camera for this one, how could I not!? Sometimes you just feel super inspired and energized to capture something unique. I won’t lie though, I was pretty much dead on my feet as the DJ played the final song, but when I started to edit the images I just wanted to do it all over again, I could immediately see the impact that energy had on the final results.
It will be of no surprise to anyone when I say that this blog post includes a plethora of vibrant colors and a healthy dose of unique moments, moments that reflect the intricate traditions on display, but at it’s core, this story is about Veena and Kishan. It’s sometimes easy to get distracted from that fact when one’s senses are constantly bombarded with such visual delights.
That being said, it’s also important to me to capture the stories beneath the surface. When I called Veena a couple of weeks before the big day she told me that her grandmother, Ajji had passed away. Obviously this was extremely tough on her and the entire family but I know she was never far from the thoughts of all those present that weekend. Veena made sure Ajji played a part in the wedding day in a number of ways, most notably by draping the Sari’s of her late grandmother on the commanding branches and trunk of the huge Fig Tree, which is such a prominent feature at the Ranch. I captured a sequence of images below which hopefully reflects, in some small way, the feelings held by the family that she was indeed there in spirit, looking over proceedings and smiling down on a wonderful day. These are images which I know Veena and the family now hold dear to their hearts, and that is everything to me.
Big thanks to Hanna from Hanna Photography for helping out on this one!
