I smiled a lot whilst shooting Julie and Nicks Santa Barbara beach wedding last month. I’d just returned from Bali and was so excited to be back in California and stoked to be heading up the coast to shoot my first Santa Barbara beach wedding since moving to Los Angeles. I just really like these guys and their attitude to life. Julie and Nick are the perfect couple, they are just so well suited to each other and as each speech consistently pointed out – very much in love. When you get a couple like this it is an absolute joy to photograph them throughout the day. Moments are never far away.
The ceremony was on the beach and the reception at Canary Hotel a few blocks away. Music is very important to them so the soundtrack of the day was very cool indeed – Led Zeppelin and Peter Gabriel for the wedding party arrival and the happy couples confetti run and Depeche Mode for the first dance…to name a few. One of Julie’s bridesmaids, Jasmine Ash, is also a client and very talented singer/songwriter and performed one of her original songs ‘Starlight’ alongside Jacques Brautbar followed by a beautiful rendition of Elvis’s ‘Fools Rush In’ with Nathanael Boone during the reception.
Julie and Nick – thanks for letting me in to be part of your day and trusting me to capture those moments. Thanks also for trusting me when I told you to scale an 8ft wall 40ft above the streets of Santa Barbara. I hope you agree it was worth it. Don’t be strangers please.
